Braves Win Third Straight

Indianapolis, IN - The Richmond Braves beat the Indianapolis Indians 6-2 Monday at Victory Field. The Braves slugged a season-high six extra-base hits to muscle their way to their third straight win.

The Indians took a 1-0 lead in the second, getting an RBI hit from their starting pitcher for the second straight night as Sean Burnett chased a run home with a single. Richmond responded in the third. Doug Clark doubled a run home and later scored on a rundown to give the Braves a 2-1 lead. The Braves added a run in the fifth on a home run by Bill McCarthy. Carlos Mendez knocked in a run with a seventh inning single to bump the Braves lead to 4-1. The Braves tacked on two more in the eighth on a throwing error that allowed Martin Prado to score and a Mendez sacrifice fly. The Indians pushed a run across in the ninth on an RBI double by Brian Bixler to make the score 6-2.

Trey Hodges threw three innings of scoreless relief to earn the win. Burnett took the loss. Mendez had three of the Braves 13 hits. Yurendell DeCaster and Russ Johnson had two hits for the Indians.

The Braves open a two game series vs. Louisville Tuesday at 7 PM. Jonathan Johnson will pitch for the Braves against the Bats Tom Shearn.
