Grand Rapids Griffins News Release
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings on Saturday recalled center Tomas Nosek and defenseman Xavier Ouellet from the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Detroit's second choice, 48th overall, in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Ouellet has collected 12 points (2-10-12) and a plus-nine rating in 25 games with the Griffins this season. The third-year professional appeared in 52 games with the Griffins last year, registering 16 points (1-15-16), a plus-24 rating and 24 PIM.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound blueliner also appeared in 21 games with Detroit during 2014-15, notching two goals, an assist and a plus-four rating, including his first NHL point (assist) on Nov. 22 at Toronto and his first NHL goal on Nov. 28 at New Jersey. During the 2015 Calder Cup Playoffs, Ouellet appeared in 16 games with Grand Rapids and led team defensemen in scoring with six points (1-5-6) and a plus-six rating.
In January, Ouellet was named to the AHL's Western Conference All-Star Team but was unable to compete due to being on recall with the Wings at the time of the 2015 AHL All-Star Classic. A native of Bayonne, France, Ouellet has tallied 45 points (7-38-45) in 147 career AHL games with the Griffins since 2013.
Signed to a contract by Detroit on June 14, 2014, Nosek has played in 25 games with the Griffins this season, tallying seven points (2-5-7), a plus-two rating and 14 PIM. The Pardubice, Czech Republic, native appeared in 55 games with Grand Rapids last season, tying for tops in the league with a plus-30 rating. Among Griffins' scorers, he ranked eighth in points (11-23-34) and fourth in assists (23). During the 2015 Calder Cup Playoffs, Nosek notched seven points (2-5-7) in 12 games for the Griffins. Should Nosek appear with the Red Wings, he will become the 152nd Griffin to play in the NHL.
The Griffins have won a franchise-record 14 consecutive games, including tying a franchise mark with 10 in a row at home. After sweeping a weekend set against Texas on Friday and Saturday, Grand Rapids will have a week off before traveling to Cleveland to take on Lake Erie on Dec. 26.
