Norfolk Tides News Release
April 13, 2007 - J.R. House lined a two-run, two-out double in the bottom of the 8th inning, lifting the Tides to a 4-2 win over the Louisville Bats in front of 11,155 fans at Harbor Park Friday night.
Trailing 2-1 in the 8th, right fielder Luis Montanez ignited Norfolk's rally with a leadoff single off of Bats' reliever Wes Wilkerson. Eli Whiteside followed with a sharp ground ball to first that was misplayed by Joey Votto, putting runners on first and second.
Left-hander Brian Shackelford (0-1) was then summoned from the Louisville bullpen, and induced a double play ball off the bat of Ruddy Yan which moved Montanez to third. Eider Torres then followed with a single into left field, plating Montanez to tie the score at 2-2.
After the Torres single, Brandon Fahey drew a walk, and Louisville brought in right-hander Ricky Stone to face House. After a passed ball advanced the runners to second and third, House lined a double down the left field line, plating both runners and giving the Tides a 4-2 lead.
House has now hit safely in each of Norfolk's seven games this season, hitting .370 with nine RBI.
Garrett Olson pitched very well in his Harbor Park debut, yielding two hits and two runs in 6.0 innings of work. The southpaw allowed just a two-run home run to Aaron Herr in the top of the first inning, walking one and striking out seven.
Cory Doyne recorded his second save of the season by striking out the side in the 9th inning.
The Tides and Bats will continue their three-game series with a 7:15 contest Saturday night from Harbor Park. Right-hander Jim Johnson (0-0, 0.00) is slated to take the mound for the Tides against Louisville righty Homer Bailey (1-0, 1.69).
