Moosic, PA - The Indianapolis Indians beat the Richmond Braves 6-2 at The Diamond Friday. The Indians rallied from a 2-0 deficit to spoil the Braves home opener before a crowd of 9,016, ending Richmond's three game winning streak.
Richmond jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when Willie Harris came home on a double play ground ball. Corky Miller knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly in the second to give the Braves a 2-0 lead. The Indians pushed a run across in the fourth on an RBI single by Jose Hernandez. In the fifth Indianapolis batted around, scoring three runs to move in front to stay. Rajai Davis tied the game with an RBI single. Ryan Doumit chased two runs in with a double to give the Indians a 4-2 lead. Hernandez doubled two more home in the seventh to make it 6-2.
Indianapolis starter Bryan Bullington earned the win. Rich Scalamandre took the loss. Doumit and Hernandez led the Indians 13 hit attack with three hits each. Martin Prado and Gregor Blanco each had two hits for Richmond.
The Braves and Indians continue their three game series Saturday at The Diamond at 2 PM. Buddy Carlyle will pitch for the Braves against Shane Youman.
