Bisons Notes

April 13, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release

TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons begin an eight-game road trip with the first of a four-game set with the Columbus Clippers from Cooper Stadium (7:25 p.m.). The Herd is coming off a shortened homestand where they took three of four from Ottawa after starting the season with four postponements. Making the start in the team's first road game of 2007 is LHP Jason Stanford. The southpaw was 6-6 with a 4.01ERA in 22 games with the Bisons last year. Columbus will counter with RHP Joel Hanrahan, who pitched five shutout innings on Sunday in Indianapolis (ND, 2H, 2BB, 5K).

SEVEN HEAVEN: When Jason Stanford throws his first pitch tonight he'll become the first Bisons player to appear in seven consecutive seasons in the Modern Era. Stanford began his Bisons' career with a complete-game three-hit shutout in a spot start on September 3, 2001 and was the team's Pitcher of the Year in 2003 (10-4, 3.43ERA, 20G). In his career with the team, Stanford is 20-11 with a 3.38ERA in 54 games. He is 4th among Modern Era pitchers with 233 strikeouts and 9th with 20 wins.

FOUR FOR FOUR: Infielders Keith Ginter and Ryan Mulhern have both collected hits in each of the team's first four games. Ginter has hit .429 (6-14) with five RBI while Mulhern has posted a .417 (5-12) average with three RBI. Both players hit home runs in Buffalo's victory over Ottawa yesterday.

ALWAYS ON: Outfielder Shin-Soo Choo reached base in eight consecutive plate appearances before grounding out in his final at-bat of yesterday's win. The stretch included four hits, two doubles, four walks and two runs scored. On the year, Choo has a .625 on-base percentage, tops in the International League.

RUNNING HERD: Buffalo was eight of nine stealing bases in their series against Ottawa. Six different Bisons collected a steal with Shin-Soo Choo and Ben Francisco swiping two each. The Bisons only stole 80 bases last year, 4th fewest in the IL.

HELD IN THE YARD: Bisons' pitchers have yet to allow a home run so far this season (4 games, 36.0 innings). Last season, Herd pitchers allowed just 79 home runs, the fewest in the International League.

400TH WIN: Yesterday, Bisons skipper Torey Lovullo picked up his 400th professional win as a manager. The Buffalo Baseball Hall of Famer needed just 703 games to reach the milestone, compiling a .569 winning percentage in five plus seasons.
