
Nomar Mazara Promoted to Triple-A Round Rock

FRISCO, TEXAS (August 18, 2015) - Today the Texas Rangers announced that 20-year-old outfielder Nomar Mazara was promoted to Triple-A Round Rock. In a corresponding move, catcher Ricardo Valencia was added to the Frisco roster from the Rangers' rookie ball team in Arizona. Additionally, RHP Jose Leclerc was activated from the inactive list and LHP Chad James was placed on the disabled list.
Mazara hit .284 with 13 home runs and 56 RBI in 111 games with the RoughRiders. Mazara spent most of last year at Class-A Hickory before being promoted to Frisco for the final month of the season, where he became the youngest player in the Texas League.
Originally signed as an international free agent in 2011, Mazara was selected as a Mid-Season Texas League All-Star in July and participated for the World Team in the Sirius XM Futures Game in Cincinnati this season.
Mazara led the Riders with 181 total bases, 116 hits and 13 outfield assists. He was tied for the team-lead in doubles (22) second in runs scored (57) and third in on-base percentage (.357). The Dominican Republic native owns a career .263 batting average with 54 home runs and 246 RBI.
Valencia, 22, has spent time at three different levels this season within the Rangers organization. The Venezuelan has played in 75 career games over four professional seasons and owns a career .223 batting average with three homers and 29 RBI. He has started 62 games at catcher and owns a 32% caught stealing percentage.
