Naturals Stymied By Herrera In San Antonio
August 18, 2015 - Texas League (TL1)
Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SAN ANTONIO - For the second straight start, San Antonio right-hander Ronald Herrera shut down the Northwest Arkansas Naturals offense with a complete-game shutout winning 3-0 on Tuesday night at Nelson Wolff Municipal Stadium. The Naturals manufactured just three hits against the Missions' hurler.
Northwest Arkansas (58-62/18-32) did not have an answer for the Herrera repertoire as the 20-year old Venezuelan faced the minimum in five of his nine innings of work. The Naturals' best offensive chance came in the third inning when Kenny Diekroeger and Ramon Torres secured back-to-back singles to open the frame. Herrera quickly erased the threat with a double-play ball to keep the Naturals scoreless.
Bubba Starling recorded the third hit for the Naturals coming in the seven inning; but Herrera did not let him advanced inducing an inning-ending twin-killing.
The pitching remained strong for the Naturals with right-hander Kyle Zimmer (1-3, 2.55) working his longest outing of the year. The La Jolla, Calif. native tossed 6.0 innings of quality-start baseball allowing one earned run - three total - on seven hits with five strikeouts. Zimmer fanned the final four batters faced.
Left-hander Sam Selman and right-hander Mark Peterson combined for the final two frames each tossing one shutout inning of their own. The Naturals' bullpen now holds a 2.65 ERA in the month of August spanning over 16 games.
Northwest Arkansas sends left-hander Jonathan Dziedzic (8-6, 3.12) to the mound tomorrow for his team-best 22nd start of the season. The Humble, Texas native holds the fourth-lowest ERA in the Texas League as right-hander Casey Kelly (1-7, 3.97) takes the ball for the Missions.
