Idaho Falls Chukars News Release
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- It was a rare drama-free home win for Idaho Falls. The Chukars scored in each of the first four innings en route to a wire-to-wire 8-4 win over Helena to take the series from the Brewers.
Robert Pehl doubled in the first run for Idaho Falls (25-24, 5-6) in the first inning. The knock by Pehl scored Brandon Downes and moved Corey Toups to third base. It was one of three hits for the University of Washington product, his 2nd straight three hit game. Samir Duenez scored Toups on a sacrifice fly to increase the lead to 2-0.
Brooks Pounders set the tone on the mound for Idaho Falls. The right-hander held the Brewers (18-32, 5-7) scoreless through the first four innings. It was the best rehab outing to this point for the Temecula, California native, who allowed just two hits. Idaho Falls scored in each of the innings that Pounders worked, giving him six runs of support.
Eric Stout (3-0) proved to be a middle inning horse for the Greybirds. The left-hander got off to a rough start, allowing four straight base runners to reach, with two runs coming across. The Butler product would settle in and not allow a hit against the final nine batters he faced.
Every Chukars player reached base in the win, and all but Corey Toups had at least one hit. However, Toups tied for a team high two runs batted in. Idaho Falls takes the home series against the Brewers, and improved to 11-7 against the Pioneer League North.
The Chukars continue the seven game homestand at Melaleuca Field on Thursday. Idaho Falls takes on Missoula in game one of the three game set.
