Great Falls Voyagers News Release

GREAT FALLS, MT - The Great Falls Voyagers dropped their first meeting of the season with the Grand Junction Rockies Friday night, losing an 8-3 decision at Centene Stadium.

Grand Junction (7-5, 30-20) wasted little time in scoring the first runs of the contest, pushing across three in the first against Voyager starter Zach Thompson (2-3). Kevin Padlo drove in one run with a fielder's choice, and another run scored on the play as an error was made. Luis Jean then capped the frame for the Rockies with an RBI single.

Great Falls (5-8, 28-23) answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first. Mason Robbins provided the RBI, driving in Ethan Gross with a double to extend his hitting streak to 16, the longest by a Voyager in 2014.

The Rockies added a pair in the third, then another in the fourth when Michael Cuddyer collected his fourth RBI in three games of his rehab assignment with Grand Junction to push the lead to five.

In the sixth, Great Falls closed the gap to three against Rockies starter Javier Palacios (3-4). Patrick Palmeiro tripled in a run, then scored one batter later when Zach Stoner brought him in with a single.

The Rockies got the two runs right back in the next half inning. Padlo collected his third hit of the game, a two-run homer, to push the Grand Junction edge to 8-3.

The Voyagers collected five hits over the final three innings against the Grand Junction bullpen, but could not get any closer than the five-run spread.

The Voyagers and Rockies continue this three-game series Saturday night at Centene Stadium. Great Falls will turn to right-hander Luis Martinez (1-0, 1.80), while Grand Junction will counter with southpaw Harrison Musgrave (1-2, 6.23). First pitch is set for 7:00 and coverage will begin at 6:45 on 1400 AM KXGF and gfvoyagers.com.
