Nishioka Homers Twice in 8-5 Loss to Reading

Portland, Maine - The Reading Fightin Phils (41-61) hit three home runs to defeat the Portland Sea Dogs 8-4 Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field. Reading won the six-game series taking five of the contests from the Sea Dogs.

The Fightin Phils scored five runs in the second inning. Logan O'Hoppe led off the inning with his first Double-A home run and Logan Miller hit his team-leading 13th home run, a two-run shot that gave Reading a 3-0 lead. Josh Stephen added a two-run double.

Portland scored a run in the bottom half of the second inning when Ronaldo Hernandez doubled and scored on a Roldani Baldwin double.

Bryson Stott had three hits for Reading including a RBI single in the fourth inning that gave Reading a 6-1 lead.

Brock Stassi added to the Reading lead with a two-run homer in the fifth inning.

Danny Santana with the Sea Dogs on a MLB rehab assignment countered with a two-run homer of his own in the bottom of the fifth inning. Santana went 2-for-4 on the day. In four games with the Sea Dogs, Santana is hitting .462 (6-for-13) with two home runs, four RBI, and four runs scored.

Tanner Nishioka blasted his fifth home run of the year in the seventh inning as Portland cut the lead to 8-4. Nishioka's home run went 480 feet, the longest home run of the season by a Sea Dogs player at Hadlock Field.

Nishioka homered again to lead off the ninth inning. Portland loaded the bases to bring the winning run to the plate, but Zach Warren struck out Ryan Fitzgerald to earn his second save.

Ryan Brasier pitched a perfect third inning on a MLB rehab assignment. Brasier recorded two fly-outs and a ground out while tossing 11 pitches, eight for strikes. In three rehab appearances with the Sea Dogs, Brasier has allowed one hit over three innings with two strikeouts and no walks.

The Sea Dogs have Monday off. On Tuesday, the Sea Dogs and New Hampshire Fisher Cats will complete the suspended game from July 4th. The game is currently tied at three in the fourth inning. After completing the game, the Sea Dogs and Fisher Cats will play Tuesday's regularly scheduled game, which will be seven innings in duration.
