
Comeback Bid Falls Short on Sunday

The SeaWolves made a late charge but could not complete a comeback win, falling to the Bowie Baysox 6-5 on Sunday afternoon at Prince George's Stadium.
For the second straight day, Drew Ward put the SeaWolves on the board in the top of the first inning as he connected on a two-run home run. The long ball was the 13th of the season for Ward who has homered four times in the series.
Bowie got a run back in the bottom of the first against Erie starter A.J. Ladwig. Cadyn Grenier led off with a double and scored on a two-out Zach Watson base hit making it 2-1.
The Baysox took the lead in the third when they connected on three straight home runs from Kyle Stowers, Andrew Daschbach and Watson. It was the first time this season that Erie has given up three straight home runs and it gave Bowie a 4-2 lead.
Erie got one back in the top of the fourth. Andrew Navigato was hit by a pitch with one out and he scored on a two-out Jon Rosoff base hit to the opposite field.
Bowie extended its lead in the bottom of the sixth against Erie reliver Henry Martinez. Johnny Rizer led off with a single and Chris Hudgins homered to straight away center with one out making it a 6-3 game.
The SeaWolves closed the gap to a pair of runs in the eighth against reliever Garrett Stallings. Kerry Carpenter led off with a double and scored on a two-out Navigato double.
In the top of the ninth inning, Yariel Gonzalez led off with his fourth hit of the game, a solo blast off of Stallings to make it a one-run game at 6-5. Stallings would go on to retire the final three hitters in order to end the game.
Stallings (1-1) earned the win allowing two runs on five hits with no walk and three strikeouts in four innings.
Ladwig (5-6) took the loss for Erie. He allowed four runs on seven hits with a walk and five strikeouts in five innings. Ladwig has worked at least five innings in 12 consecutive starts.
