Portland Sea Dogs News Release
LOSING STREAK SNAPPED - The Portland Sea Dogs snapped their six-game losing streak last night with an offensive explosion. They beat the Reading Fightin Phils 11-3 at Hadlock Field. Cameron Cannon led the Portland offense with a 4-for-5 performance including two doubles, a run scored, and a RBI. Ronaldo Hernandez and Hudson Potts chipped in with three hits each including two doubles, two runs scored, and a RBI for Hernandez. Triston Casas hit his first Home Run at Hadlock Field and seventh of the season in the seventh inning. The 425-foot blast to rightfield was a two-run homer that highlighted a three-run inning and gave the Sea Dogs an 8-3 lead.
ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOKS - The Sea Dogs set new season-high marks in five categories last night. Portland recorded a season-high with hits (20), extra base hits (9), singles (11), doubles (7) and runners left on base (14).
MAJOR LEAGUE REHABBERS - Danny Santana and Ryan Brasier will be rehabbing with the Sea Dogs this week. Santana was signed as a minor league free agent by the Boston Red Sox on 3/7/2021, entering his 14th professional season. Prior to the Red Sox, he was a member of the Minnesota Twins, Atlanta Braves and Texas Rangers. In 2021, Santana is batting .171 with two doubles, four home runs and 13 RBI for the Red Sox in 33 games. Brasier has been in the Red Sox organization since 2018, also in his 14th professional season. He had Tommy John surgery on 6/10/14 and went nearly five years between Major League pitching appearances, from 9/27/2013 with the Los Angeles Angels to 7/9/2018 with Boston.
ACTIVE STREAKS - Rio Gomez and Joan Martinez continued their scoreless streaks last night. LHP Rio Gomez has not allowed a run in his last 13 appearances spanning 20.0 innings with only 11 hits and 22 strikeouts. RHP Joan Martinez has not allowed a run in his last eight games (10.1 innings) while allowing just four hits and striking out 13.
WHERE DO WE STAND - The Portland Sea Dogs remain in fourth place in the Double-A Northeast League, 5.0 games out of first place. The Akron RubberDucks are in first place, followed by the Bowie Baysox (3.5 games back) then the Somerset Patriots are in third place, 4.0 games out of first place. The Sea Dogs are only 1.5 games out of a playoff spot.
ON THE MOUND - RHP Andrew Politi will take the mound for the Sea Dogs this afternoon. Politi last pitched 8/6 at Binghamton and tossed 3.1 innings allowing five runs on four hits while walking six and striking out four. He has faced the Fighting Phils once on 7/13 at Reading he pitched 5.0 innings allowing two runs on six hits while walking two and striking out four. He allowed two home runs and was given the winning decision.
