Clinton LumberKings News Release
CLINTON, IA - A four-game winning streak for the Clinton LumberKings came to an end on Friday night at NelsonCorp Field with a 4-3 loss to the Lake County Captains. Clinton (14-7, 47-43) failed to complete the sweep of Lake County (13-8, 53-37) as their ninth inning rally fell one run short.
The LumberKings played from behind all night long. The Captains broke out for three runs in the first inning against LumberKings starter George Soriano. Connor Smith doubled home the first run and was followed by an RBI double by Daniel Schneeman. Two batters later, the scoring was capped on a Cody Farhat RBI single into center field.
Lake County's first inning was enough to hang Soriano (2-6) with the loss. He ended his night having allowed four runs on six hits while walking six and striking out four.
In the top of the fourth, the Captain's plated their final run of the night to take a 4-0 lead. Two walks set the table before Hosea Nelson brought home a run with an RBI fielder's choice.
Clinton answered the run with a two-run rally in the bottom of the fourth. Evan Edwards doubled to open the inning, and J.D. Osborne chased him home with an RBI double back of the bag at third base. Davis Bradshaw then scored Osborne with an RBI single into left that cut the deficit to two runs.
Juan Mota (3-6) allowed no more runs over his six-inning outing and was awarded the win for his time out. He allowed two runs on six hits while walking one and striking out seven.
In the bottom of the ninth, the LumberKings rallied with two out to pull to within one. Osborne singled to start the rally and came home on a Thomas Jones double high off the wall in right center field. With the tying run at second, Marcos Rivera grounded out to shortstop to end the game.
The LumberKings will continue their six-game homestand with the first game of a three-game series against the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Saturday night. Clinton will throw righty Josh Roberson (1-0, 0.00) while Fort Wayne will tap righty Efrain Contreras (4-3, 3.04). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Fans looking to listen to the game can hear Erik Oas with the pregame show on 6:15 p.m. with the pregame show on 100.3 FM WCCI or online at lumberkings.com via the tunein radio app.
The weekend fun continues with the first game of a three-game series with the Fort Wayne TinCaps. Following the final out, the Slough Buoys take to the stage in the Dr. Pepper Picnic Garden down the left field line for a postgame concert!
