St. Cloud Rox News Release
St. Cloud, MN - The St. Cloud Rox made a late-inning run at the Waterloo Bucks Thursday night but could not get the final run across as they fell to the Bucks 4-3 at Joe Faber Field. The Rox (14-14, 33-30) tallied a run in the ninth inning, and had the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position with two outs but Chris Paul struck out to end the game and give the Bucks the victory.
After starting pitcher Tim Faix allowed two runs in the top of the first, the Rox answered back with their first run of the game in the second inning as Kade Scivicque doubled to score Liam Bedford who singled earlier in the inning and cut the Bucks lead in half. The Rox tied the game the following inning when Mitchell Kranson launched his sixth home run of the season to right center field and make it 2-2 after three.
Waterloo tallied two more runs in the fifth inning, which was enough to knock Faix out of the game as he picked up the loss (2-3) for his 4.2 inning performance with four hits allowed and five strikeouts. Trevor Charpie came in to relieve him in the fifth and threw 2.1 innings while not allowing a hit and striking out three, and Kevin Burgee threw the final two innings and shut out the Bucks as they remained ahead 4-2 going in to the bottom of the ninth.
In the ninth, Mitchell Kranson singled to right center field to score Morgan Phillips who doubled earlier in the inning to bring the game within a run, but Waterloo reliever Adam Bray struck out Paul to end the game at a score of 4-3. Kranson led the Rox with a three-hit performance as he totaled the only two RBIs of the game for the Rox and Morgan Phillips finished with two hits.
