Kalamazoo Growlers News Release

The Kalamazoo Growlers dropped their third game in a row to the Green Bay Gamblers, 5-2 in 10 innings, on Thursday night from Homer Stryker Field in front of 2,243 fans.

Karl Sorensen's (St. Cloud State) two-run homer over the left field wall in the bottom of the sixth gave the Growlers (11-16) the 2-1 lead, until the Bullfrogs tied the game at 2-2 with two outs in the top of the ninth.

The Growlers totaled just five hits, but Dillion Haviland (Duke) stifled the Bullfrogs (14-13) all evening. Over eight innings pitched, the left-hander allowed just one run off four hits while striking out four batters. Thursday marked Haviland's third game in which he allowed one run or fewer since being named a starter.

While Sorensen drove in the only runs for Kalamazoo, Justin Fletcher (Northern Illinois) recorded the only multi-hit night, going 2-for-4 from the leadoff spot. Jesse Puscheck (Canisuis College) and John Brodner (Wright State) picked up the other hits for the Growlers.

After tying the game in the top of the ninth, the Bullfrogs added three more runs in the 10th to take the 3-1 lead and eventual victory over the Growlers.

Kalamazoo will face the same Green Bay team on Friday at Homer Stryker Field. Ryan Smoyer (Notre Dame) is scheduled to make the start and looks for his seventh win in Northwoods League play. Friday will be Derek Jeter Appreciation Night presented by Ron Jackson Insurance and WWMT at the ballpark, as well as Walmart-Sam's Club Fireworks and Flat Screen TV Giveaway. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a commemorative Derek Jeter patch. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
