Alexandria Blue Anchors News Release
Alexandria, Minn. - The Alexandria Blue Anchors ended up on the right side of a 12-6 scoreboard, defeating the Willmar Stingers at home.
The Stingers would strike first with a solo home run from Hutton Moyer and would take a 1-0 lead entering the bottom of the first. The Anchors would come right back however, as Ricky Sanchez drove in Kris Goodman on a groundout to tie up the game.
The Anchors would then score a run in the second after a Kris Goodman RBI single to take a 2-1 lead. The teeter-totter match would continue as Max Dutto hit a solo home run to tie it up again in the top of the third. Willmar would then add two more on a two RBI ground rule double hit by Jack Ross.
In the bottom of the fifth, Aaron Gretz would walk with the bases loaded to bring in the third run of the game for the Anchors. The next batter, Dalton Leuschke would tie up the game up on an RBI single. Right after that, the Anchors would take the lead back on an RBI ground out from Cam Duzenack. Entering the sixth inning, the score would read 5-4 Blue Anchors.
The Anchors got some insurance in the bottom of the seventh, as Aaron Gretz came in from third on a wild pitch to make it 6-4 Alexandria entering the eighth.
The game continued to be back and forth as Willmar tied up the game with two runs in the top of the eighth. Those runs would score on a Jack Ross RBI single and after a throwing error by Aaron Gretz allowed Ross to score.
Gretz would redeem himself in the bottom of the eighth, as he helped the team retake a one run lead on an RBI single. After that, a wild pitch would bring in Jeremy Hyde and an RBI double from Duzenack would drive in a third run to make it 9-6 Anchors. The inning would then spiral out of control for Willmar's pitcher, Ben Gullo, as two more wild pitches would score two runs and leave it 11-6 Alexandria. With a regular position now on the mound in Casey Hughston, Craig Nennig would drive in the twelfth run for the Anchors on an RBI single. Jordan Lee would then fly out to end a great inning for the Blue Anchors.
Graylon Brown would finish up the ninth inning and close the door on a 12-6 win for the Anchors.
The wacky Wednesday continued as the two teams met in Willmar on Wedensday night as part of a scheduled day night double header. Alexandria would strike first with two runs in the top of the first. Kris Goodman would reach on an error to start the inning off. Two batters later Jordan Lee would hit a double and switch places with him on second base. Jeremy Hyde would then plate Lee on a fielder's choice later in the inning.
The Anchors would hold the lead until the fifth when Willmar would add three to take the lead 4-3. In the eighth the Ricky Sanchez would give the Anchors the lead back on his fifth home run of the year.
The Anchors would give up the lead in the ninth and lose the game by a final score of 6-5.
