Kalamazoo, Mich. - The Green Bay Bullfrogs scored one run in the ninth inning and three in the tenth inning to come from behind and defeat the Kalamazoo Growlers on Thursday night in extra innings by a final score of 5-2.
In the tenth inning, Tony Brandner (Northern Illinois) reached first base after being hit by a pitch. Following a walk to Dean Long (Emporia State) that moved Brander up to second base, Franco Guardascione (Palm Beach State College) came through with an RBI single that scored Brander and gave Green Bay a 3-2 lead. Both Daniel Jackson (Long Beach State) and Paul Jacobson (South Dakota State) added RBI singles in the inning that extended the Bullfrogs lead in the tenth inning to 5-2.
Brian Celsi (California) tied the ballgame up for the Green Bay Bullfrogs in the ninth inning. A two-out, pinch-hit RBI single scored pinch runner Matt Beaty (Belmont) which tied the game at two in the ninth inning.
Sam Brunner (Dodge City CC) threw the eighth, ninth, and tenth innings for Green Bay to pick up his first win of the season. Brunner did not allow a hit over his three innings of work in relief of Bullfrogs starter Roberto Baroniel (Nova Southeastern).
Baroniel earned a no decision on Thursday after throwing seven solid innings, allowing only two runs on five hits while striking out three.
A two-run home run by Karl Sorenson (St. Cloud State) put the Growlers ahead in the sixth inning. The home run was Sorenson's fifth of the year.
A two-out RBI single by Jacobson that scored Johnny Bekakis (Long Beach State) put the Bullfrogs on the board first in the fourth inning, 1-0.
Charged with his second loss of the season was Joshua Buchalski (Michigan State) for the Growlers. Buchaslki started the tenth inning and allowed two runs to score in just one third of an inning.
On Friday night the Bullfrogs will look to sweep the Growlers in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Zac Westcott (Nova Southeastern) will take the hill for the Green Bay Bullfrogs. First pitch from Homer Stryker Field is set for 6:05 p.m. (CST).
