Evansville Otters News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN - A gut-wrenching third inning was the difference Friday night, as the Lake Erie Crushers downed the Otters 8-3 at Bosse Field.

Otters' starter Dustin Renfrow recorded the first two outs of the inning, but the next nine Crushers batters would reach base. An infield single was followed by a single and then back-to-back doubles. Tim Binkoski then walked, and was followed by three straight singles, the last of which chased Renfrow. Reliever Kyle Kamppi stepped in and walked Kylee Hash before getting Jodem Rivera, the twelfth man to bat in the inning, to pop out to third base. In all, seven runs scored on seven hits and two walks as the Crushers took a 7-0 lead.

The Otters would get on the board in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Kenny Gilbert and a run scoring fielder's choice by former Crusher Luke Hetherington, cutting the deficit to 7-2.

Lake Erie picked up another run in the eighth inning after Eddie Tisdale led off with a double and scored on Scott McIlvain's fielder's choice for an 8-2 lead.

The Otters would add the final tally in the ninth when Jeremy Strack scored from third on a passed ball.

The normally reliable Renfrow (4-7) delivered his worst performance of the year, giving up seven earned runs on seven hits in 2 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out none. Kamppi, Kai Tuomi, and Brandon Dill combined to allow only one run on two hits the rest of the way.

Crushers' starter Alberto Rolon (2-1) surrendered two runs on seven hits in six innings. Josh Faiola pitched the final three innings, giving up one unearned run on one hit for his second save of the year.

The Otters (25-51) will look to even the three game series at a game apiece Saturday at 7:05pm CDT.
