Washington Wild Things News Release
Crestwood, Il - The Washington Wild Things (36-40), presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, beat the Windy City Thunderbolts (43-33) by a score of 11-5 for their first victory in Windy City since September 2007.
Five batters homered for Washington. Jacob Dempsey set a Wild Things franchise record for homeruns in a season with 25 when he led off the second inning with a solo shot, surpassing Josh Loggins' record. Five batters later, Brett Grandstrand hit a three run homer, his third homerun for the season.
In the third inning, Chris Sidick led off with a solo homerun, giving the Wild Things a 5 - 0 lead. Ryan Groth and Matt Sutton both blasted a homerun each in the ninth.
Rounding out the offense, the Wild Things scored three runs on Dempsey's bases loaded double in the seventh following a 14 game hit streak by Michael Parker.
Windy City scored two runs on back-to-back walks followed by back-to-back singles in the fourth and added an extra run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Pete Paris.
Wild Things starter Brian McCollough (5-4) went 5.1 innings, allowing two runs while striking out three.
The Wild Things and Thunderbolts play again tomorrow night at 8:05 EST. Radio broadcast on WJPA 95.3 FM begins at 7:55 PM.
