
Nieporte Comes Through in 8th; Claws Win 4-3

LAKEWOOD, NJ - Quincy Nieporte drove home Rodolfo Duran with a two-out RBI double in the eighth inning to give the BlueClaws a 4-3 win over Hagerstown on Wednesday night at FirstEnergy Park.
The BlueClaws (4-2/45-30) have won four of their first six in the second half and got to 15-games over .500 for the year for the first time. Hagerstown (1-5/28-46) falls to 5-11 against Lakewood this year.
Nieporte's RBI double came off Sam Held (2-4), who took the loss. Julian Garcia came on and threw a 1-2-3 ninth inning to earn his first professional save. Garcia joins Zach Warren and Connor Brogdon with saves for Lakewood in the second-half.
After the Suns got a run in the first inning off Will Stewart, the BlueClaws answered with two in the bottom of the first. After loading the bases on two walks and a hit batsman, Lakewood got a two-run single from Daniel Brito to take a 2-1 lead.
Rodolfo Duran hit his team-leading ninth home run of the season to extend Lakewood's lead to 3-1 in the third inning. Duran has hit seven of his nine home runs since May 27th.

The Suns tied the game with two runs in the sixth off Luis Carrasco (2-0), who was the winning pitcher. A Jake Scudder groundout made it 3-2 and Nick Choruby's RBI double tied the game.
Duran had two hits and Brito two RBIs for the BlueClaws in the victory.
The teams play game two of their three-game series on Thursday night at 7:05 pm. LHP Kyle Young (2-3) starts for Lakewood opposite LHP Seth Romero (0-1).
