Lehnen Deals While RiverDogs Bats Stay Hot against Rome

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston RiverDogs southpaw Dalton Lehnen delivered six shutout innings with seven strikeouts while the offense continued its outburst with 10 hits in a 6-1 Wednesday night victory over Rome in front of 3,782 fans at Joe Riley Park.

Lehnen (6-3) needed just six pitches in each the third and fourth innings in his quality outing, walking just one Brave (43-33, 3-4) and stranding three in scoring position. The Augustana University product had walked 15 batters over his previous three outings.

RiverDogs (37-36, 4-1) righty relievers Daniel Ramos and Greg Weissert combined for the final three innings, giving up an unearned run in Ramos' first of two innings. Weissert struck out the side in the ninth, raising his punch out total to 50 in 34 1/3 innings.

The RiverDogs offense scored at least five runs for the fifth time in as many contests post-All-Star break. Carlos Vidal lifted his second home run of the season with a leadoff bomb off Braves No. 30 prospect Huascar Ynoa (5-8) in the fifth inning. Charleston hitters have 12 home runs in six games going back to the first half finale on June 17th.

South Atlantic League Player of the Week Pablo Olivares collected two hits in five plate appearances and scored a run in the seventh. The Venezuelan outfielder is 11-for-25 (.440) in the second half with 11 RBI and five runs.

Chris Hess ripped an RBI triple in the second inning to get the Dogs on the board. The Southern Division All-Star plated catcher Jason Lopez for his 27th RBI. Right fielder Leonardo Molina grounded out to bring home Hess in the inning. Wednesday was the one-year anniversary of Hess' RiverDogs debut, another victory against Rome.

Second baseman Oswaldo Cabrera and third baseman Welfrin Mateo each scored runs on Rome errors.

Ballpark Fun

Charleston RiverDogs' all-time leader in home runs and RBI Ben Jones made an appearance on another "Way Back Wednesday" down at The Joe. The former first baseman launched 35 homers and drove in 165 runs for the Dogs between 2005 and 2006. Fans and players took in the nostalgia of the 1994 season as the team wore their teal and purple uniforms and spectators took advantage of $4 general admission tickets.

Charleston's brief three-game homestand continues against Rome on a Budweiser Thirsty Thursday presented by 95SX. Fans can enjoy dollar beers in the Ashley View Pub as DJ Natty Heavy keeps the concourse bumping throughout the night. Right-hander Deivi Garcia (0-1, 3.60) will take the hill for the RiverDogs against Rome's righty Jasseel De La Cruz (2-2, 2.41).
