
Suns Fall to Lakewood 4-3 on Wednesday

Lakewood, NJ - Jake Scudder had two RBIs while Yasel Antuna had two hits in the Hagerstown Suns 4-3 loss to the Lakewood BlueClaws on Wednesday evening at FirstEnergy Park. The Suns fall to 1-5 in the second half and 28-46 overall and will play the second game of the series on Thursday with a 7:05 PM first pitch.
The Suns took an early lead, putting up a run against Lakewood starter Will Stewart in the first inning. Cole Freeman walked with one out and Luis Garcia singled to move Freeman to second. Omar Meregildo walked to load the bases and Scudder grounded out to first, scoring Freeman to give the Suns a 1-0 lead.
Lakewood put together a two-out rally in the bottom of the first to take the lead against Suns starter Andrew Lee. Jake Schiener was hit by a pitch with two outs and Colby Fitch walked. Rodolfo Duran walked to load the bases and Daniel Brito singled to right, scoring Schiener and Fitch to give Lakewood a 2-0 lead. Quincy Nieporte walked to load the bases again, but Lee struck out Josh Stephen to end the inning and the threat.
Rodolfo Duran powered the BlueClaws to a two-run lead in the third inning with Lee still on the bump for the Suns. With two outs, Duran hit a 397-foot homer over the left field wall, extending the Lakewood lead to 3-1. Brito walked and went to second on a wild pitch, but Lee got Nieporte to fly out to left to end the frame.
The Suns tied the game in the sixth against Lakewood reliever Luis Carrasco. Freeman led off with a single to center and went to second on a wild pitch. Garcia walked and both runners advanced on another wild pitch with Freeman scoring when Scudder grounded out to second. Nick Choruby doubled to left-center, scoring Garcia and making it a 3-3 game.
Lakewood took the lead back in the eighth inning against Suns reliever Sam Held. With one out, Duran singled to center and scored when Quincy Nieporte doubled to left-center, making it a 4-3 BlueClaws advantage. The Suns went down in order in the ninth, taking their fifth loss of the second half and 46th overall.
Lee threw four and one-third innings while allowing three runs on two hits with six walks and four strikeouts in a no decision. Jared Brasher threw one and two-thirds scoreless innings in relief, allowing one hit with a strikeout. Held (2-4) threw two innings in a loss, allowing a run on two hits with a strikeout.
Notes: Garcia extended his hit streak to four games... Scudder has seven multi-RBI games this season... Antuna had his 14th multi-hit game of 2018... Lee's six walks is a career-high... It's also the most by a pitcher in a game this season... The six walks also tie a single-game high for the Suns pitching staff this year... Held threw his first 11 pitches for strikes... The Suns continue a three-game series against the Lakewood BlueClaws on Thursday with a 7:05 PM first pitch... Hagerstown will send LHP Seth Romero (0-1, 5.27 ERA) against Lakewood LHP Kyle Young (2-3, 3.19 ERA)...
