All-Star Outfielder Sensley Promoted to Advanced-A Tampa

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston RiverDogs outfielder Steven Sensley was promoted to the New York Yankees' Advanced-A affiliate, the Tampa Tarpons, on Wednesday. Former Los Angeles Dodgers second round pick and outfielder Mitchell Hansen was signed to a Minor League contract and will fill the open roster spot.

The 22-year old Sensley advances having played 88 career games with Charleston since being drafted in the 12th round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Sensley hit .277 with a .354 on-base percentage in his 67 games with Charleston this season. He slugged 10 home runs and drove in 22 runs en route to being named a utility outfielder in the South Atlantic League All-Star Game on June 19th. All 10 of Sensley's big flies were solo home runs giving him the fewest RBI for a double-digit home run hitter in Minor League baseball.

The Southern Division All-Star excelled in June, hitting at a .317 clip with four home runs and an OPS of 1.014 in 17 contests. Sensley even made his professional debut at first base with a pair of error-free games in his final homestand with the RiverDogs.

Sensley collaborated on three separate consecutive home run sequences this season. He first went back-to-back on May 15th with Dom Thompson-Williams, who he now joins in Tampa. Wilkerman Garcia hit a grand slam on June 8th which was following Dermis Garcia and Sensley long balls, all coming on three pitches. The powerful lefty's most recent dinger followed up an Oswaldo Cabrera three run shot on June 24th.

After being drafted for the third time last June, the Louisiana native launched 13 home runs between Charleston (4) and Rookie-level Pulaski (9), the most of all Yankees' 2017 selections. Sensley collected 46 RBI in 50 games and had an OPS of .954 in his professional premiere.

Sensley becomes the sixth player on the Holy City's Opening Day roster to get promoted from Charleston to Advanced-A Tampa this season, following four pitchers and fellow outfielder Dom Thompson-Williams. Utility infielder David Metzgar was on the Opening Day roster in early April and has played seven games with Tampa but was reassigned from Charleston to Extended Spring Training first.

Hansen, 22, was drafted in 2015 by the Dodgers. This season, the lefty outfielder hit .231 with a pair of homers and 13 RBI in 32 games with the Class-A Great Lakes Loons of the Midwest League before being released. The Plano, Texas product hit at least 10 home runs in each of the last two campaigns between Great Lakes and Rookie-level Ogden.
