Owen Sound Attack News Release

NHL Scouts seem to like what they have seen out of the Owen Sound Attack so far this season. NHL's Central Scouting Panel released their fall rankings today and three members of the Owen Sound Attack found themselves amongst the top 25 skaters in the Ontario Hockey League.

There are two things that every young hockey player dreams of. One is scoring an overtime goal to win a championship and the other is hearing your name called on NHL Draft day. Jarrod Maidens got the first item on the list out of the way early in his career and is well on his way to achieving item number two on the list next June. Maidens, 17, is ranked #5 on NHL Central Scouting's list of OHL skaters for the 2012 NHL Entry Draft behind Nail Yakupov (SAR), Alex Galchenyuk (SAR), Olli Maatta (LDN) and Radek Faksa (KIT). In 23 games so far this season, Maidens has 11 goals and 5 assists for 16 points.

Gemel Smith is ranked #12 on NHL Central Scouting's list of the top 25 skaters. The Attack's 2010 6th Round Selection has had an outstanding start to the season, leading the Attack in scoring with 12 goals and 15 assists and sits 15th amongst Ontario Hockey League scorers. The 5'10, Toronto native was the Attack's Molson Canadian Player of the Month for October after netting 20 points in 13 games.

Rookie forward Artur Gavrus found himself ranked 25th on NHL Central Scouting's list after being named the Ontario Hockey League's Kal-Tire Rookie of the Month. After being held to only 2 points in his first 5 games, the shifty Belarusian went on a tear in October, notching 8 goals and 5 assists, including a 6 game point streak to end the month of October. Gavrus has 9 goals and 9 assists for 18 points on the season.

The Attack wishes to congratulate Jarrod, Gemel and Artur for being recognized.
