One of the last selections of the 2020 NHL Draft, Saginaw Spirit graduate Ilya Solovyov made it to the NHL on Thursday as the 23-year-old skated in his debut with the Calgary Flames. He skated in 16:34 of ice time while recording a shot on goal as the Flames fell 3-0 to the St. Louis Blues.

A 6-foot-3, 208Ib. defenceman from Mogilev, Belarus, Solovyov played the 2019-20 season in Saginaw, putting up 40 points (7-33-40) in 53 games for the Spirit before being taken in the seventh round (205th overall) by the Flames.

Solovyov has spent the last three seasons playing professionally, recording 18 points (4-14-18) in 68 games with the AHL's Calgary Wranglers in 2022-23.
