
Newcomers Forbes and Lewandowski to Make Debuts; Cheesman Waived; Ramsay Returned to Worcester

Peoria, Ill. (March 25, 2005) â Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that fifth-year defenseman Ian Forbes and second-year left wing Phil Lewandowski will make their Rivermen debuts after being acquired in separate trade deadline deals on Tuesday. Christie also announced that rookie center Ryan Ramsay has been returned to the team's American Hockey League affiliate, the Worcester IceCats, and rookie forward and Peoria native Bo Cheesman has been waived.
Forbes, a 6-6, 215-pound native of Brampton, Ontario, racked up 189 penalty minutes (PIM) in 62 games with the San Diego Gulls this season. The 24 year-old backliner has averaged more than 184 PIM in each of his five professional seasons and is 78 PIM from 1,000 for his professional career. Lewandowski, a 5-10, 190-pound native of Naperville, Ill., collected four points (3g-1a) in 15 games with Long Beach this season. The 26 year-old product of Ferris State University opened the season with the Trenton Titans, notching 16 points (9g-7a) in 35 games before his acquisition by Long Beach.
Cheesman, a 6-2, 197-pound native of Peoria, Ill., played in two games for the Rivermen after recently completed a four-year NCAA Division I career at Lake Superior State University, posting 49 points (26g-23a) in 144 career games. He is one of just four Peoria natives to ever don a Rivermen uniform; Brian Hamilton, Jim Mullin and Steve Ortman are the others. Ramsay, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound native of Ajax, Ontario, notched three points (1g-2a) and a +2 plus/minus rating in two games. The 21 year-old has registered 16 points (6g-10a) and 38 games with Worcester before going down to injury on February 23.
The Peoria Rivermen, a proud affiliate of the NHL's St. Louis Blues, are a member of the ECHL â The Premier "AA" Hockey League. On Friday, March 25, the Rivermen host the Wheeling Nailers. Game time is 7:30 p.m. All fans will receive a subscription to the Sporting News. On Saturday, March 26, Peoria and Wheeling battle again. Game time is 7:00 p.m. The first 2,500 fans will receive a Duffle Bag, courtesy of OSF, St. Francis Medical Center & the Children's Hospital of Illinois.
