Titans Claim Final Garden State Cup

TRENTON, NJ – In the final game of a storied ECHL rivalry, the Trenton Titans defeated the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies, 4-3, in front of 5,382 fans at Sovereign Bank Arena. With two points, the Titans won the season series and captured the final Garden State Cup.

Trenton took control early, as B.J. Abel, returning to the team from the Philadelphia Phantoms (AHL), scored at 7:44 in the first period. It was his fifth goal of the season. Scott Bertoli extended his assist streak to six games on the play.

Leon Hayward gave the Titans a 2-0 with his 16th tally of the season at 17:04. Then, just 12 seconds later, Les Haggett scored his first professional goal with Rick Kowalsky and Brent Robinson assisting.

The Titans began the second period with a 3-0 cushion, but extended that lead to 4-0 just 20 seconds into the second frame when Matt Zultek launched a slapshot past Bullies goalie Trevor Koenig for his 12th goal of the year.

But the Bullies fought back, scoring three goals in the final period. Rookie Peter Bournazakis scored his 6th goal of the season on a power-play opportunity a 1:11.

At 18:03, the Bullies capitalized on another man-advantage when Ian Walterson beat Andrew Allen to make it a 4-2 game..

Atlantic City struck once more. With an extra skater on the ice, Brian Fahey delivered the Bullies third and final goal of the night.

Allen stopped 32 shots on the night, en route to his 23rd win of the season. The Titans were scoreless on three power play opportunities and 2-for-4 on the penalty kill.
