Pride fall on road again
March 25, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release
BEAUMONT, TX â The Pee Dee Pride saw their road winless streak extended to 14 games on Friday night as the Texas Wildcatters picked up a 3-1 win in front of 1,370 fans at Ford Arena.
The win for Texas was their first at home in 13 games, and just its fifth win on home ice this season.
For the second consecutive game, the Pride played a scoreless first period. However, unlike Wednesday's game when Pee Dee held Louisiana to just four first-period shots, Texas was able to fire off 19 shots on Pride goaltender Nick Boucher in the opening period. Boucher turned aside all of those offerings, including several in the closing minute of the frame when the Wildcatters were on a power play.
It took Texas just 10 seconds into the second period to get on the scoreboard, taking advantage of the remaining time on Naud's penalty. Andrew Ianiero and John Snowden moved the puck swiftly through the neutral zone, and carried the puck across the Pride blue line. The puck eventually settled on the stick of Mark Giannetti at the far post and he beat Boucher with a quick shot for his eighth goal of the season.
Texas doubled its lead at the 5:54 mark of the middle period as Nick Field's shot from the right-wing circle went off the post and into the net. It was Field's first professional goal.
Ty Hennes gave the Wildcatters a 3-0 lead at the 13:50 mark of the period. Hennes and James DeMone skated through the neutral zone just after the Pride had good sustained pressure in the Texas zone. DeMone slid a pass to Hennes on the right-wing side, and his quick wrister beat Boucher to the five-hole for his fifth goal of the season.
Pee Dee finally got on the scoreboard 2:01 after the Hennes goal. Eric Naud centered a pass in front to Kyle Kidney, and he was able to beat Wildcatters' goaltender Phil Osear with a quick redirection for his 15th goal of the season.
Once again, the Pride offense mustered up a number of shots, getting a total of XX shots in the game, but Pee De could only manage the one goal against Osear.
The Pride and Wildcatters complete their two-game set on Saturday at Ford Arena, with face-off once again set for 8:00 p.m. ET. Catch all of the action on WDAR Sunny 105.5 and _www.peedeepride.com starting with the Palmetto Chiropractic Pre-Game Show at 7:40.
The Pride return home on Saturday, April 2, hosting the Columbia Inferno at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the Florence Civic Center Box Office or through TicketMaster at (843) 679-9333 or www.ticketmaster.com
