Gators downed by Wolves 5-1

Lafayette, LA - The Mississippi Sea Wolves scored three goals in the final 20 minutes to take control of a tight game and defeat the Louisiana IceGators 5-1, Friday night in Biloxi.

Playing in front of an excited home crowd, the Mississippi Sea Wolves jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after the first period. At 9:34, Austin Miller scored on a wrist shot from the slot for his 6th of the season. Louis Dumont adding to his ECHL record career total of points and assists with the drop pass to Miller. At 11:02, Travis Lisabeth made it 2-0 when he chopped the puck off the back of the Gators net and swept it near post past Nathan Marsters for his 20th of the year. Marsters wanted a whistle after Jay Legault's shot landed on the back of the twine, but play continued allowing Lisabeth to light the lamp. The Gators cut into the lead at 12:18, as Wes Mason redirected a Paul Lynch slap shot from the left point between the legs of Randy Petruk for his 29th goal of the season. Chris Thompson getting the other assist as the Gators trailed by one goal heading into the 2nd period.

After a scoreless 2nd period, the Sea Wolves blew the game open with three 3rd period goals. Nick Greenough (7) at 1:01, Anthony Battaglia (24) at 10:27 and Milt Mastad (4) at 17:13, all lit the lamp as Mississippi ended the Gators hopes for another comeback victory.

With the loss, Louisiana's record is now 22-36-5, 50 points and 5th place in the South. The Gators were outshot by Mississippi 44-29. Power plays were 0-3 for the Gators and 0-8 for the Wolves.

The Gators next game is tomorow night, March 26, when the Gators host their arch rivals, the Mississippi Sea Wolves, in a return match, at 7:05pm. ALL games the remainder of the season can be heard on 960am "The Gator".
