New York Red Bulls Announce 2016 MLS Schedule

HARRISON, N.J. - The 2015 Supporters' Shield champion New York Red Bulls and Major League Soccer announced the 2016 MLS schedule on Thursday. The Red Bulls open the 2016 MLS season at Red Bull Arena on Sunday, March 6 versus Toronto FC. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.

New York won its second Supporters' Shield in three seasons in 2015 as the Red Bulls advanced to the Eastern Conference Championship for the second consecutive season.

The Red Bulls set franchise records for wins and points while leading MLS in goals last season. Head coach Jesse Marsch was named MLS Coach of the Year while Luis Robles was named the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year.

All 34 of New York's matches will be on the team's 24/7 radio channel - Red Bulls Radio - via TuneIn. The Red Bulls stream live audio broadcasts of all games in both English and Spanish via the team's official website, NewYorkRedBulls.com.

The Internet radio broadcasts are also available on NewYorkRedBulls.com via the TuneIn player in addition to the TuneIn Radio app and all of TuneIn's platforms.

Notable fixtures:

- New York's schedule features 17 home matches at Red Bull Arena, including 14 home fixtures on Saturday (6) and Sunday (8).

- The Red Bulls play 24 matches against Eastern Conference teams and 10 against Western Conference sides. New York faces New England, Chicago and Columbus just twice during the regular season while playing every other Eastern Conference side three times in 2016.

- Four of the five Western Conference opponents New York plays at Red Bull Arena made the 2015 MLS Playoffs (Sporting Kansas City, FC Dallas, Seattle, Portland).

- New York plays on FOX Sports for the first time in 2016 with two of the New York Derbies on FOX. The two New York clubs meet Saturday, May 21 at 3 p.m. on FOX Sports at Yankee Stadium. FOX will also broadcast the July 24 match from Red Bull Arena at 1 p.m.

- New York can have up to 17 appearances on national television in 2016 - the league maximum. The Red Bulls have four games scheduled on ESPN, one on ESPN2, two on FOX Sports, five on FOX Sports 1 and four on UniMas. The Red Bulls' local broadcast schedule will be announced at a later date.

- MLS announced a two-week break to accommodate the Copa America 2016 tournament, which will be held in the U.S. this summer. The break will take place between June 2-14.

- New York returns to action following the Copa America break against Seattle Sounders FC on Sunday, June 19 on Fox Sports 1 (7:30 p.m.) at Red Bull Arena.

- Four of New York's first seven matches are on the road, including Western Conference games at San Jose and Colorado to start the season.

- New York is on the road just twice over the final six matches of the season. The Red Bulls have home fixtures versus D.C. United, Montreal, Philadelphia and Columbus Crew SC during that stretch.

- The Red Bulls close out their 2016 home schedule at Red Bull Arena versus Columbus Crew SC in a rematch of the 2015 MLS Eastern Conference Championship (ESPN, 5 p.m.).

- New York and Atlantic Cup rival D.C. United meet three times in 2016. The two sides face each other for the first time on Friday, May 13 at RFK Stadium at 7 p.m. on UniMas. New York hosts D.C. United on September 11 at Red Bull Arena. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. on ESPN.
