Colorado Rapids Announce 2016 Regular Season Schedule

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - In conjunction with Major League Soccer, the Colorado Rapids today announced their 2016 regular season schedule. For the fourth consecutive year, the Rapids will begin their campaign on the road, this time against San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday, March 6 at 1:00 p.m. MT.

A week later, the club will host their Home Opener at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Saturday, March 12 at 5 p.m. MT against Robbie Keane, Steven Gerrard and the LA Galaxy. The Rapids will play 17 home games in a 34-game schedule (24 Western Conference games and 10 matchups against Eastern Conference opponents) between March 6 and October 23.

Pablo Mastroeni's side will meet San Jose Earthquakes, LA Galaxy, Sporting KC, Portland Timbers, Real Salt Lake and Vancouver Whitecaps FC three times. The Rapids will play the remaining Western Conference teams, Houston Dynamo, FC Dallas and Seattle Sounders FC once at home and once on the road.

After winning back the Rocky Mountain Cup in 2015, the Rapids will look to retain the trophy with another three-match competition against rivals Real Salt Lake. Two of the matches will take place at Rio Tinto Stadium (Saturday, April 9 and Friday, August 26), and one at Dick's Sporting Goods Park (Saturday, May 7).

The club's annual 4th Fest features a match against reigning MLS Cup champions Portland Timbers at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, which will mark the 21st consecutive season that the Rapids will host a July 4 match, followed by the largest public display of fireworks in the state of Colorado.
