Last Meeting vs. Columbus Recap:
Columbus 62 â New York 41
March 20, 2004 â Nationwide Arena
The Dragons defeated the Columbus Destroyers 62-41 in front 12,289 fans, the largest home crowd in franchise history. QB Aaron Garcia threw for seven touchdowns and was named the Offensive Player of the Game. OS Will Holder finished with three touchdown receptions.
The Dragons jumped out of the gates quickly in the first quarter with a Cosmo DeMatteo touchdown catch. WR/DB Lincoln Dupree would then add a touchdown reception. With the score 14-7, WR/LB Richmond Flowers highlighted the quarter by intercepting a John Rayborn pass at Columbus' seven-yard line. He quickly returned the pickoff for a touchdown. Thanks to Flowers heads-up play, the Dragons had a 21-14 lead after the first period.
In the second quarter, the Dragons took control of the game. They outscored the Destroyers 21-10 with Will Holder and Richmond Flowers adding their second touchdown scores of the night. Flowers' TD reception was particularly special because it was the longest play (45-yards) from scrimmage this season for New York. Late in the half, the Fire Breathin' defense answered the bell once again to cut a Columbus offensive drive short. DS Terrance Joseph came up with the defensive stop with his second interception of the season. On the play, give credit to lineman Anthony Hutch who tipped the Rayborn pass at the line of scrimmage. At the end of the first half, the Dragons had an 18-point lead, 42-24.
The third quarter was a lot quieter than the previous two as only 16-combined points were scored. Holder hauled down his third touchdown of the game to push the Dragons' lead to 22 points. However, Columbus fought back as WR Cornelius White caught his third touchdown of the game to match Holder's total. Even though the Destroyers gained a little bit of ground in the quarter, the Dragons were still leading after three quarters, 49-33.
The Dragons sealed the game early in the fourth quarter when Cosmo DeMatteo caught his second touchdown of the game. With the score 56-33 in the Dragons' favor, rookie FB/LB Josh White ran in a score from three-yards out and DS Donvetis Franklin picked up an interception to seal the game at 62-41.
Game Preview:
The Dragons look to make it five straight wins when they head to Columbus for the first time in franchise history to face the Destroyers. The Dragons are 3-1 on the road this season. They defeated Columbus in their first match of the season.
Next Week:
The Dragons return home to face the John Elway-owned Colorado Crush on Sunday April 18 at 3:00pm. The Dragons defeated the Crush last season at the Coliseum 61-52. The Dragons are winners of their last two home games and will look for their first three-game home win streak since 2001.
The IFS:...
If the DRAGONS defeat the Destroyers it would...
*Give the Dragons a 6-3 record this season.
*Give the Dragons a five-game winning streak.
*Give the Dragons a 4-1 road record.
*Give the Dragons a 6-3 record all-time vs. Columbus.

Dragon Tales:
On the Road:
With the 57-41 victory in Carolina, the Dragons upped their record to 3-1 on the road. Earlier in the season, they had their road winning-streak snapped at seven games. Since Head Coach Todd Shell took over the Dragons on Feb. 24 last season, the team is 9-1 on the road in the regular season. The winning streak had dated back to a 65-57 overtime victory over the Detroit Fury on March 16.
Winning at Home:
With the Dragons home victory over the Destroyers, the team won their second home game of the year. Since moving to Long Island in 2001, the Dragons are 12-15 at the Nassau Coliseum, including a home playoff win last season vs. the Chicago Rush. This season they are 2-2 at home. The Dragons have won consecutive home games for the first time since May 25 â June 3, 2001 when they won four straight.
One-Sided Games:

Dragons Getting Stops: In the five wins, the Dragons have recorded 23 stops and four made field-goals while in the three losses they only stopped Chicago twice with missed field-goals. They have recorded 18 stops and four FG's in the four game winning streak.
