Los Angeles's Jackson, San Jose's Roe, Columbus' Polk and Philadelphia's Ryan earn week nine honors

NEW YORK – Los Angeles Avengers offensive specialist CHRIS JACKSON, San Jose SaberCats wide receiver/linebacker JAMES ROE, Columbus Destroyers defensive specialist JOJO POLK and Philadelphia Soul fullback/linebacker CHRIS RYAN have been named Baby Ruth Real Deal Co-Offensive Player, ADT Defensive Player and U.S. Army Ironman of the Week, respectively, for Week 9 of the 2004 season.

Jackson (6-2, 204, Washington State), who is in his fifth AFL season, earned Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors by helping led the Los Angeles Avengers (5-3) to an 81-70 victory over the Austin Wranglers (5-3) on Saturday. The 2003 Offensive Player of the Year hauled in 11 receptions for a season-high 210 yards and a League record-tying seven touchdowns. Jackson also had a two-point conversion reception, giving him 44 points. The performance set new franchise records in receiving touchdowns and points (Jackson held the previous marks – six and 38). This marks the sixth time that the former Cougar has earned an AFL weekly honor.

Roe (6-1, 198, Norfolk State), who is in his fifth AFL season, earned Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors by helping the San Jose SaberCats (7-1) to a 62-55 victory over the defending champion Tampa Bay Storm (3-6) on Sunday. The All-Ironman performer hauled in 11 receptions for 158 yards and a League record-tying seven touchdowns. The performance set new franchise records in receiving touchdowns and points (42). This marks the third time and second consecutive week that the former Spartan has earned an AFL weekly honor.

Polk (6-0, 185, Northeastern State-OK), who is in his fourth AFL season, led the Columbus Destroyers (2-6) to a 55-46 victory over the Orlando Predators (3-5) on Sunday. He had 8.0 total tackles, one forced fumble, two pass breakups and one interception. The victory gave the Destroyers their first home win in Nationwide Arena. This marks the first time that the former All-Rookie performer has earned an AFL weekly honor.

Ryan (6-0, 315, Clark Atlanta), a.k.a. "Soul Train", led the Philadelphia Soul (4-5) on both sides of the ball during their 47-31 victory over the Dallas Desperados (5-3) on Sunday. The fifth-year veteran rushed five times for four yards and two touchdowns, while adding an 8-yard touchdown reception for his third score on offense. "Soul Train" had three solo tackles, one pass defense and 2.0 sacks on defense. He also blocked a point-after attempt. The block marked Ryan's fourth of the season (3 FG, 1 PAT). This marks the first time that Ryan has earned an AFL weekly honor.

Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Week candidates included: Arizona's Sherdrick Bonner, Chicago's Etu Molden, Colorado's Damian Harrell, Columbus' Ryan Vena, Detroit's Mark Lewis, Indiana's Anthony Hines, New York 's Lincoln Dupree and Philadelphia's Tyronne Jones.

ADT Defensive Player of the Week candidates included: Chicago's John Moyer, Colorado's Rashad Floyd, Detroit's Curtis Eason, Grand Rapids' Cecil Doggette, Los Angeles' Greg Hopkins, New York's Terrence Joseph, Philadelphia's Gary Compton and San Jose's Omarr Smith.

U.S. Army Ironman of the Week candidates included: Arizona's Randy Gatewood, Colorado's Kevin McKenzie, Columbus' Sedrick Robinson, Detroit's Thabiti Davis, Las Vegas' Dennison Robinson, Los Angeles' Henry Douglas, New York's Richmond Flowers and Tampa Bay's T.T. Toliver.
