Chicago Rush News Release

The Chicago Rush took a step toward bolstering its secondary Monday night when it acquired defensive specialist Hamin Milligan from New Orleans in exchange for rookie FB/LB Chris Browning, the team announced.

"He is an experienced safety in the middle who started for Arizona in last year's ArenaBowl," said Rush head coach Mike Hohensee. "We feel we need to improve in that area and we think he can help us do that."

Before being released last week, Milligan (6-2, 195, Houston) was Arizona's top defensive back this season, leading the team with 33 tackles, two interceptions and six passes broken up in just six games. After his release he was claimed by New Orleans, but did not appear in a game before the trade with Chicago.

Milligan began his AFL career last year with San Jose, appearing in two games with the SaberCats before being released and signing with Arizona in Week 14. Milligan assumed a starting defensive specialist role with Arizona, recording 16 tackles and five passes broken up in the team's four playoff games.

To complete the trade, the Rush sent Browning, (6-2, 255, Western Michigan) to the VooDoo (7-1).

"Chris Browning is going to be a good player in this league and we did not want to give him up," said Hohensee. "But we are looking at ways to help us beat Tampa Bay this week, and continue to push toward a title this year."

Browning appeared in one game for the Rush this season.

The AFL's trading deadline is Wednesday, April 7, at 4 p.m. Central time.

The Rush (6-2) returns home to Allstate Arena Sunday to host the defending ArenaBowl champion Tampa Bay Storm (3-6). Kickoff for Sunday's game is 2 p.m. Fans wishing to purchase individual game tickets to the game, or any Rush 2004 home game, may order by calling Ticketmaster at (312) 559-1212, or by visiting the Ticketmaster Web site at www.ticketmaster.com. Tickets also may be purchased in person at any Ticketmaster outlet or the Allstate Arena box office.
