Detroit Fury and WDIV Team Up for Meteorological Lessons
April 6, 2004 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Detroit Fury News Release
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - The Detroit Fury and WDIV Local 4 are giving metro-Detroit elementary school students an opportunity to learn about the wonders of weather, when the Detroit Fury Field Trip program visits the WDIV broadcast studio in Detroit on Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at 2:00 p.m.
Children from The Children's Home of Detroit will be taken on a special "behind-the-scenes" tour of the Local 4 Storm Center with WDIV meteorologist Andrew Humphrey.
The Fury Field Trip will feature presentations from Fury players and WDIV media personalities. Following the presentations, Humphrey and the WDIV meteorology staff will give children a tour of the Weather Room and teach them how professional meteorologists predict the weather.
Humphrey will also take the children on a tour of the WDIV newsroom, showing them how stories are put together and then put on the air. Fury players, cheerleaders and Frenzy, the Fury mascot, will join the kids in what promises to be an educational experience.
"I've always wondered how they can predict what the weather is going to be like, especially in an unpredictable state like Michigan," said Fury captain Ron Carpenter. "I guess on April 13th, we are all going to find out."
Children participating in the Fury Field Trip will receive special gifts to remember their time with the Fury. Each student receives a book, special Fury giveaways and a Fury Field Trip t-shirt.
The Fury (4-4) look for their third win in a row on Saturday, April 10, 2004 at The Palace of Auburn Hills when they take on intrastate rival, the Grand Rapids Rampage. Tickets for the Fury can be purchased by calling (248) 377-0100 and any additional information can be found at
