New York Dragons News Release

Uniondale, N.Y. - The New York Dragons of the Arena Football League will hold their first open tryout for the 2009 season on Saturday, November 1st, 2008 at 9am at the Dragons Practice Facility at Mitchel Field Athletic Complex in Uniondale, N.Y.

The Dragons have held several successful open tryouts in the past with an average of 100 participants each. Current Dragon and All-Arena DB Billy Parker made the team as a result of his attendance and performance at an open tryout. Former Dragons WR Chris Anthony and DB Will Holder were also discovered out of open tryouts.

"Billy [Parker] and his father drove from Virginia for the tryout," said head coach Weylan Harding. "During the workout I could see there was something about him in particular. I didn't know how it would project as far as his future success, but I knew it was a great foundation. I offered him an invitation to camp on the spot. Now he stands as one of the top defensive backs in the entire league."

Football players from near and far will be traveling to Long Island on Saturday to make their dreams of a career in pro football come true. There are several players from the tri-state area who will be attending the try out as well as players who are traveling from as far as California. Dragons coaches will test each tryout participant through drills that test their speed and agility as well as rate their performance in advanced simulated play.

"These open tryouts stand as one of the last true opportunities at the American dream," Coach Harding added. "This is one of the last places where your destiny is squarely in your own hands."
