
New Jersey Gets Major League Treat

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The Lakewood BlueClaws, the Single-A affiliate of the Philladelphia Phillies, and the Trenton Thunder, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, will each host a Major League Baseball All-Star on May 23.
Lakewood welcomes 2006 National League MVP and 2002 Lakewood BlueClaws' first baseman Ryan Howard. Howard is scheduled to start on May 23 and 24 in Lakewood, while the Thunder are scheduled to start 7-Time Cy Young Award winner Roger Clemens on May 23, assuming a successful outing in Tampa, FL tonight.
"It's amazing that two minor league teams just 35 miles apart will host two of the best players in all of baseball on the same night," said Thunder General Manager Brad Taylor. "Premier events like these certainly solidify the fact that affiliated minor league baseball is the best entertainment value anywhere."
"What was going to be a very special night for the Lakewood BlueClaws and their fans has turned out to be a historic night for minor league baseball in the state of New Jersey," said BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown. "We are very proud to be a part of it and extremely pleased to be able to provide this type of event for our fans."
The Thunder and BlueClaws are the only two Minor League Baseball teams in the state of New Jersey affiliated with the Major Leagues.
In Lakewood, Wednesday, May 23rd's game begins at 11:05 AM, and the first 2,000 fans will receive Oversized Baseball Cards, thanks to the Asbury Park Press and Harrogate. May 24th, a 6:35 PM game, will feature the BlueClaws first ever Concert Ticket Extravaganza, where fans can win tickets to various area concerts, including The Police, Southside Johnny, Def Leppard, and a grand prize of two tickets to Live Earth at Giants Stadium.
In Trenton next Wednesday, the Thunder will open the gates at Waterfront Park at 4:30 PM for both season ticket holders and the general public. The promotion that night is Freddy Sanchez Bobbleheads to the 1st 2,000 fans ages 6 and over courtesy of DQ Grill & Chill. The giveaway of these bobblehead dolls will begin at 4:30 PM. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
Roger Clemens is preparing to rejoin the NY Yankees after being signed as a free agent. Ryan Howard, who has a strained left quad, was placed on the Disabled List on May 10th, and is eligible to come off on May 25th.
