Intimidators Lose to Legends
May 18, 2007 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
The Kannapolis Intimidators got four runs in the ninth inning Thursday night to force extra innings in a game they eventually won. Friday night, though, Kannapolis had no such luck at a repeat performance, as the Intimidators (20-22) lost to the Lexington Legends (18-24), 6-1, at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. It was the first win for Lexington in the first three games of the four-game series.
Intimidators starter Ricky Brooks gave up a run in the top of the first inning and three more in the fourth inning. Brooks lasted five innings tonight, giving up four runs on four hits. He struck out eight, but walked four batters as well. Meanwhile, Legends starter Casey Hudspeth went seven strong innings, allowing just a single run on four hits.
Hancer Vargas?s throwing error with two outs in the top of the ninth led to two unearned runs allowed by Kannapolis reliever Ryan Rote.
Down 6-1 entering the bottom of the ninth, Lexington reliever Victor Garante pitched a 1-2-3 inning, retiring Anderson Gomes, Lee Cruz, and Stefan Gartrell with two strikeouts and a groundout.
The loss snapped Kannapolis?s seven-game home winning streak. The Intimidators have now lost their last three games in which they had a chance to get back to .500.
The Intimidators and the Legends square off one last time in the series Saturday night at The Cannon on Chick-Fil-A Night, Scout Night, and post-game fireworks. Game time is set for 7:05 pm.
