Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

SALISBURY, MD-Miguel Abreu's 2-run single in the 6th gave Delmarva a 4-3 win over Lakewood in Friday night. The BlueClaws (19-19) have now alternated wins and losses since last Thursday (8 games), and are 3-3 on their 8-game road trip.

Abreu's hit came off of reliever Kevin Salmon. Both runs, however, were charged to starter Darren Byrd (4- 2), who gave up 4 runs over 5.1 IP. Byrd had won his previous 4 starts.

The BlueClaws scored their first 3 runs in the 5th inning. After a leadoff single by Tuffy Gosewisch, Carl Henry Jr. hit his 5th home run of the year, to deep center, which tied the game at 2.

After Quintin Berry walked, he stole 2nd (14th of season) and went to 3rd on a throwing error by the catcher Alex Castillo. He would score 2 batters later on an infield single by Adrian Cardenas to put the BlueClaws up 3-2.

Delmarva (16-23) starter Kyle Schmidt lasted 5 innings and allowed 2 earned runs, 3 total, while striking out 7. Reid Hamblet (3-0) picked up the win by throwing 2 shutout innings of relief.

Wilfredo Perez picked up a 6-out save, his first of the season.

Shorebirds first baseman Brandon Snyder had a 3rd inning single which scored the first 2 runs of the ballgame.

The third game of the 4-game set is Saturday night at 6:35. RHP Edgar Garcia (1-2, 3.60) throws for Lakewood against RHP Josh Tamba (0-1, 5.93). You can hear the game on the Shore Sports Network (1160 WOBM-AM and 1310 WADB).

NOTES: Kevin Howard, who was 0-2, saw his 11- game hitting streak end.

Ryan Howard, the 2006 NL MVP, will rehab his injured quad in Lakewood on Wednesday and Thursday. He played for the BlueClaws in 2002, hitting 19 home runs, before winning the Rookie if the Year in 2005 and hitting 58 homers in his MVP year of 2006.
