
GreenJackets Win Second Straight

Augusta, GA - The GreenJackets (29-12) held off a late rally in the ninth inning for a 5-4 win over the Hickory Crawdads (15-23) on Friday night. Starter Kevin Pucetas recorded the win working six shutout innings and Juan Trinidad recorded his seventh save of the year recording the final two outs in the ninth to end the game.
Augusta entered the ninth inning leading 5-0 but Hickory plated four runs to trim the lead to one and had the tying run on third with two outs in the frame. Trinidad entered the ninth with a runner on first, one out and three runs in already.
Trinidad issued a walk then got the next batter to pop out for the second out of the frame. Alex Gonzalez then connected for an RBI single to trim the lead to 5-4 and put the tying run on third. Trinidad was able to get Bobby Kingsbury to ground out to end the frame.
Pucetas (5-0) scattered four hits over his six innings and struck out three while not walking a batter.
Mike McBryde drove in what proved to be the game winning run with a one out RBI double in the eighth inning scoring Nestor Rojas from third for a 5-0 lead.
The GreenJackets broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning when Matt Weston connected for an RBI single scoring Brett Pill for a 1-0 lead. Pill led off the frame with a double to set up Weston.
Augusta added another run in the sixth inning, again on an RBI hit from Weston. Bobby Felmy led off the frame reaching on a hit pitch then stole second and moved to third on the throwing error from the catcher. Weston then connected for a one out double to give Augusta a 2-0 lead.
The GreenJackets added two more runs in the seventh inning on an RBI ground out from Brian Bocock and an RBI single from Ryan Rohlinger for a 4-0 lead.
Ryan Shaver worked two perfect innings in relief of Pucetas to hold the lead.
The GreenJackets and Crawdads will resume their series on Saturday night with Augusta sending right-hander Adam Cowart (7-1, 1.79) to the hill. Hickory will counter with right-hander Serguey Lenares (0-0, 0.00). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
