RiverDogs-Braves Suspended By Rain
May 18, 2007 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Charleston RiverDogs News Release
Thursday night's South Atlantic League game between the Rome Braves and Charleston RiverDogs was suspended in the top of the third inning due to steady rains at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park with the Braves leading 4-0. The game will resume on Friday at 5:05 pm and be completed to a full nine-innings, with a second seven-inning contest to follow.
The Braves will have Chase Fontaine at third base with two outs in the third stanza when play resumes Friday.
Rome tagged RiverDogs starter Garrett Patterson for four runs, all earned, in 2.2 innings pitched before the rains halted play. Pitching through a steady drizzle, Patterson allowed eight hits while walking one and throwing three wild pitches.
The Braves scored a run in the top of the first on Willie Cabrera's RBI fielder's choice, then plated three more in the second. Chad Lundahl and Brandon Monk connected for back-to-back run-scoring doubles against Patterson to make the score 3-0, and Monk later scored on Patterson's third wild pitch of the frame.
Rome starter Jamie Richmond allowed three hits and a hit batsman in his two innings of work, but stranded three RiverDogs on base prior to the game's suspension.
The third of this four game series is scheduled to start approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of Thursday's contest. Neither team had decided on a starting pitcher for that game as of Thursday night. Broadcast coverage of the twin bill will begin on the Internet only at 5 pm thanks to All In Broadcasting, then be joined in progress on ESPN Radio 910 The Team at 7 pm.
Fans with tickets for Thursday's contest may exchange them for any future 2007 RiverDogs home game, based on availability. For more information call the RiverDogs at (843) 577-DOGS or stop by the Riley Park box office.
