Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors were edged by the Phoenix RoadRunners, 5-4, in front of 3,205 fans at US Airways Center in Phoenix Thursday night. D Martin Frechette and F Alexander Naurov both recorded two assists in their Condors debut, as F Andrew Ianiero added two goals.
Both teams' recent acquisitions led their respective offenses in the first period. Phoenix LW Dusty Jamieson, who was acquired in late February, helped the RoadRunners (20-33-7, 47 points) to an early two-goal lead with a goal and an assist. However, Ianiero's first tally of the night, assisted by Naurov and Frechette, cut the deficit to one. Condors D Jay Langager tied the game at 2-2 with his first of the year just 56 seconds later. Ianiero struck again to give the Condors (17-32-9, 43 points) the 3-2 lead at 18:52, with Frechette and Langager registering assists on the goal.
The RoadRunners answered the Condors three consecutive first-period goals with three straight of their own in the second period, taking a 5-3 lead through two.
Six minutes into the third, Naurov notched his second assist of the game, as he set up a LW Brett Lutes one-timer goal with a tape-to-tape pass. Lutes' tally brought the Condors within one, 5-4, which proved to be the final score despite a furious finish by Bakersfield.
Notes from The Nest:
F Andrew Ianiero (2g), D Jay Langager (1g, 1a) and D Martin Frechette (2a) each notched two points in the first period tonight.
