Dayton Bombers News Release

Charlotte, NC- The Dayton Bombers (26-21-5-5) looked to stay hot in the Carolinas as they took on the Charlotte Checkers (28-24-1-5) at the St. Lawrence Homes Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. But the game didn't start the way Dayton would have liked, as the Checkers got on the scoreboard first when Jeff Kyrzakos notched his 18th goal of the season at the 8:59 mark. Five minutes later Kyrzakos added his second goal of the game when he beat the goalie to put Charlotte up 2-0. The Bombers fired 11 shots on goal and put good pressure on the Checkers' net minder but weren't able to find the back of the net in the period.

The Checkers notched their third goal of the game when Blake Bellefeuille knocked one in at the 13:22 mark. In the last minute of the second period, the Bombers did light up the scoreboard for the first time when captain Greg Labenski rifled his 4th goal of the season from the top of the circle, with the assist to Mike Walsh. The goal came as Dayton capitalized on a power play. The Bombers' Jeremy Duchesne stepped up big in the period, stopping 13 of 14 shots that he faced, giving him 25 saves through two periods. The shots in the period were about even as Dayton fired off 13 shots on goal, sending one to the back of the net. The period had some rough spots, including when Ryan MacGregor of Dayton and Mark Smith of Charlotte got into a good tussle, both landing some rough blows and each earning five-minute majors. Dayton killed off all 5 power plays that Charlotte had throughout the first two periods.

The 3rd period gave Dayton's Josh Sciba his first goal as a Bomber (his 8th of the season). The rookie forward was just signed yesterday and came from the Las Vegas Wranglers. Sciba's goal came unassisted less than two minutes into the period when he stole the puck away in the Checker zone putting a nice move on the Charlotte goalie. Unfortunately, Dayton couldn't keep Charlotte out of the net in the period, as the Checkers scored two goals giving them 5 for the night.

The Dayton Bombers look to rebound as the team heads to Columbia, SC, to take on the Inferno tomorrow night at the Carolina Coliseum.

For tomorrow night's game in Columbia, unfortunately there will be no B2 audio or video from either team. The Bombers apologize for any inconvenience.
