Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The St. Louis Blues have re-assigned winger Ryan Reaves to the Alaska Aces. Reaves likely will play tomorrow night as Alaska opens a three-game series against West Division co-leader Victoria.

The 6-2, 204-pound rookie, who was called up to the Aces AHL affiliate in Peoria just two games into the ECHL regular season, has not played since suffering an injury in a 4-3 overtime loss to Rockford on December 26. Reaves, who turned 21 in January, scored his first pro goal against Chicago on November 23. He also buried the game-winning goal to go along with his first pro assist in a 6-5 victory over San Antonio December 1. After accumulating six penalty minutes in two games for Alaska, Reaves posted a +5 rating and 41 PIM in his 21 games for the Rivermen before the injury.

Reaves was selected in the fifth round of the 2005 NHL Draft by St. Louis and spent three seasons with Brandon in the Western Hockey League (36g-43a in 201 games). He helped lead the Wheat Kings to the 2005 WHL Finals, where they lost to Kelowna in five games. Ryan's dad, Willard, was a star running back in the CFL with Winnipeg, rushing for more than 1,700 yards and 18 touchdowns to help the Blue Bombers win the 1984 Grey Cup. He also appeared in the NFL with Miami and Washington during the 1989 season and was elected to the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 2002.

16 points out of the West Division race as recently as February 10, Alaska (32-20-5) has climbed to within six points of division leaders Idaho and Victoria by virtue of 11 wins in its last 12 games heading into tomorrow's opener with the Salmon Kings (35-17-5) at 7:15 p.m. The series continues Saturday at 7:15 p.m. and Sunday at 5:05 p.m. (after which a post-game "Skate with the Aces," presented by Fred Meyer, will be held).

Alaska has gone 3-3 against Victoria in six prior meetings this year, winning two of three in Canada just before Christmas and losing the last two games of a three-game set in late January. All regular season games are broadcast live on AM 750 KFQD, with coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to face-off.
