Lowell Spinners News Release
LOWELL, MASS. - The Lowell Spinners, Class-A Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, are helping NFL fans kick their lockout blues with a special visit from a pair of New England Patriots Friday, July 15 to LeLacheur Park.
All-Pro kicker Stephen Gostkowski will return to LeLacheur Park and he is bringing quarterback Brian Hoyer along for the night. As in year's past, Gostkowski will kick autographed footballs into the stands from the field, while Hoyer will be tossing touchdown passes as if the fans were Deion Branch and Wes Welker.
Gostkowski had previously kicked at Spinners games from 2007-2009, much to the delight of the Spinners faithful.
The Patriots kicker sine 2006, Gostkowski led the NFL in scoring in 2008, earning All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors. After suffering an injury in 2010, Gostkowski finished the season on Injured Reserve, while Hoyer appeared in five games in relief of Brady in 2010, throwing one touchdown in Week 17 against Miami.
"These are the types of events that a fan will remember for a lifetime," said Lowell Spinners President/General Manager Tim Bawmann. "Only a small minority of fans can claim they've caught a foul ball. For Spinners fans this is an opportunity to catch a football straight from the foot or right from the arm of an NFL star!"
Both Gostkowski and Hoyer have baseball backgrounds. Gostkowski played four years of baseball while at the University of Memphis as a pitcher, while Hoyer won a high school state championship as a prep pitcher in Ohio.
"Baseball is a game that stays with you forever," said Bawmann. "We've enjoyed having Stephen out each year he's been here and he always has a blast in Lowell. This is what Minor League Baseball is all about!"
Limited game tickets to this game are available and fans are encouraged to visit the Lowell Spinners Box Office at LeLacheur Park, call 978-459-1702, or visit www.lowellspinners.com to purchase your tickets today.
