Jamestown Jammers News Release

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - Josh Hodges turned in his best outing of the season as the Jamestown Jammers blanked the Hudson Valley Renegades, 3-0, Wednesday night at Diethrick Park.

Pitching on an extra day's rest proved to be the trick for the 6-7 righty, who struck out six and allowed just two hits and two walks in seven innings to earn his third win of the season. The victory keeps the Jammers (16-10) a game in front of both Mahoning Valley and Auburn for first place in the Pinckney Division after all three won Wednesday.

Brent Keys extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a bunt single, and he also had a double, two RBI and two stolen bases. Austin Barnes and Ryan McIntyre both smacked a pair of singles, and Marquise Cooper roped a double and scored a run for a Jamestown offense that pounded out 11 hits and worked four walks.

Jamestown threatened to score in both the first and second inning, but the team finally broke through in the bottom of the third. Ryan Goetz, Barnes and Terrence Dayleg each had a single to load up the bases then Jobduan Morales grounded out to first to plate the only run the Jammers would need all night behind Hodges.

In his seventh start of the seventh, Hodges took a no-hitter into the sixth inning with one out before surrendering a single to right to Raymond Church. Juniel Querecuto also had a single to give the Renegades their only runner in scoring position for the entire night, but Hodges got the league-leader in home runs, Jeff Malm, to line out to end the threat.

After Hudson Valley threatened to tie the game, Jamestown tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. McIntyre, Cooper and Barnes all walked to load up the bases with two outs, and Keys drilled his second double of the season down the right field line to plate both runs before Barnes was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

Miguel Mejia struck out two in the eighth inning for the Jammers, and Alfredo Buret pitched a perfect ninth to earn his fifth save of the season as the trio of Jamestown pitchers combined to hurl a two-hit shutout.

Andrew Bellatti was the hard luck loser as he fell to 0-3. He tossed four innings, give up eight hits, walked one and struck out two.

The two teams will be back in action Thursday night at 7:05 p.m.
