Maine Celtics News Release
Uniondale, NY - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, hung with the Long Island Nets in the first half, but couldn't keep pace with the hot-shooting Nets, falling on the road Friday night, 129-111.
Maine (18-25) was led by Archie Goodwin, who finished with a season high 32 points on 14-30 shooting. P.J. Dozier added 23 points, and Andrew White added 10 points. John Bohannon added 8 points and 15 rebounds in the loss.
Long Island (29-14) had seven players in double figures, led by Alan Williams with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
The Red Claws started slowly, with Alan Williams' bucket giving Long Island a 13-4 early lead. Goodwin and Dozier hit back-to-back threes to get it to 6. Goodwin buried a three, followed up by a Nets goaltend. Still, the Red Claws trailed by 7. A corner three by Shannon Scott helped give Long Island a 10 point lead. Long Island led 36-27 after 1. Goodwin scored 12 points in the 1st quarter alone.
Goodwin opened the 2nd quarter with a driving lay-up. The Nets continued hot shooting from the outside, extending their lead back to 10. Dozier drove and scored to cut it to 48-40, but the Nets scored 6 straight to extend their lead to 14. Sheldon Jeter stopped the run with back-to-back-to-back threes. Goodwin's contested lay-up gave him 20 points for the half and cut the deficit to 7. Goodwin's three-point play made it a 4 point game. The Red Claws trailed 67-62 at halftime. Maine shot 48% (26-54) from the field in the first half, and both teams shot 8-18 from the free throw line.
In the 3rd, the Nets quickly scored 3 easy buckets to extend the lead to 77-65. Kamari Murphy and Mitch Creek would begin to pile it on the Red Claws, extending the lead to 20 points. The Red Claws struggled to score in the 3rd, while fatigue of playing back-to-back nights began to set in. Goodwin's steal and score cut the deficit to 22, but Maine trailed 104-80 after 3. The Red Claws were out-scored 37-18 in the period.
In the 4th, the Nets continued to pour it on, while also dominating the glass. Dozier's nifty pass to Andrew White cut it to 21 points. Murphy's driving dunk made it 120-98 Nets. Tahjere McCall buried a corner three. The Nets cruised to victory from there. Maine wound up shooting 43% (44-103) from the floor, 26% (10-38) from three-point range, and 13-22 from the free throw line. Long Island shot 47% (47-101) from the field, 35% (11-31) from downtown, and 24-32 from the charity stripe. The Red Claws were out-rebounded 62-39 in the game.
