Naturals get early lead, Cards come back

Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SPRINGDALE, AR- Lance Lynn settled in after the Naturals scored a first inning run as the Cardinals came back for a 5-1 victory Tuesday at Arvest Ballpark.
Andrew Brown's second inning home run off Naturals' starter Everett Teaford provided Springfield with the necessary margin, giving them the 2-1 lead they would not relinquish.
Northwest Arkansas' first inning run came when Jarrod Dyson led off with a double and came home on an RBI single by Jeff Bianchi.
Springfield would get another run in the top of the third when second baseman Colt Sedbrook led off with a homer to left. It was the ninth home run Teaford (3-7) surrendered to the Cards this season in five starts. The southpaw came into the game with an ERA over 12, and lowered that with a five inning effort that, other than the two homers, was solid. He allowed five hits and struck out four and surrendered the three runs, all coming off the two homers.
The Naturals got runners on in several innings Tuesday but failed to score as they stranded seven and went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position. In the third, Dyson led off with a single and Kurt Mertins walked to put two on with nobody out. After Jeff Bianchi went down swinging, Dyson was caught attempting to steal third. A groundout by Ed Lucas ended the inning. Two one-out walks by Marc Maddox and Dyson in the fifth were also futile as both were stranded when Lynn retired Kurt Mertins on a popout and fanned Bianchi to end the frame.
Lynn (11-4) worked six innings, allowing just three hits and the first inning run. He struck out three and worked around four walks.
Federico Castaneda worked the final four frames for the Naturals, allowing a homer to Joe Mather in the eighth and an RBI single to Pete Kozma in the ninth to give Springfield (27-29, 65-61) some insurance on their fifth straight win. The Naturals (29-28, 65-62) have now lost seven straight.
With Tulsa losing to the Travelers on Tuesday, the Naturals remain in second place and two games behind the Drillers in the Texas League North Division. The series with Springfield continues Wednesday. Right-hander Matt Kniginyzky (5-9, 5.24) will toe the rubber for the Naturals while righty Scott Gorgen (3-4, 4.93) goes for the Cards.
