Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SPRINGDALE, AR - The Kansas City Royals announced three transactions today that affected the Northwest Arkansas roster. The related details are below.
Left-hander Gilbert De La Vara has been transferred to Triple-A Omaha. The 24-year old De La Vara has appeared in 35 games for the Naturals this season, including one start, and has posted a 6-1 record and a 5.74 ERA with two saves in 64 1/3 innings pitched. The southpaw, who will see Triple-A action for the first time, was in his second season with the Naturals but spent a portion of the 2007 season in the Texas League with Wichita. The Tucson, AZ resident was the Royals' 15th round selection in the 2004 draft.
Right-hander Aaron Hartsock rejoins the Naturals from Triple-A Omaha after making one appearance for the O-Royals on Monday night. The 25-year old resident of Imperial, CA is 2-1 with a 3.07 ERA and five saves over 23 appearances with the Naturals in 2009. He is amongst Kansas City Royals' minor league leaders this season in saves (16 between Advanced Class-A and Double-A) and appearances (38). Hartsock was the Royals' 23rd round selection in 2006 out of Cal Baptist University.
Right-hander Chad Orvella also rejoins the active roster after having been sidelined since late July with a right groin injury. Orvella, the 28-year old right-hander, joined the Naturals in late June after signing as a minor league free agent following his release from the Tampa Bay Rays organization. Originally a 13th round selection of Tampa Bay in the 2003 draft, the Sammamish, WA resident has 69 games of Major League experience, having spent a portion of the 2005-2007 seasons with Tampa Bay. In those 69 games, he owns a 4-10 record and a 5.79 ERA with one save in 82 1/3 innings. He missed all of the 2008 season recovering from shoulder surgery. In four games with the Naturals this season, he is 0-1 with a 3.60 ERA.
After the moves, the Naturals' roster stands at the Texas League limit of 24 active players.
