Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Corpus Christi - playing as the "Raspas" as part of Minor League Baseball's "La Copa de la Diversion" - scored four runs in the first inning and used a pair of pitchers to blank the Naturals on Saturday night at Whataburger Field by a 4-0 final score.
Right-hander, Scott Blewett (4-5, 5.38 ERA) faced nine batters in the first inning and allowed a two-run double and two-run single to begin his night. With the final out of the first frame, Blewett settled in. The 22-year old went out to allow one hit over his final four and one-third innings of work and retired 13 of the last 14 batters faced.
Blewett finished five innings, allowed four runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
Corpus Christi's pitching stymied Northwest Arkansas (38-46/3-11) and held the Naturals to just six hits on the night. Northwest Arkansas had two men reach scoring position the entire night - Erick Mejia in the fourth inning and Mejia, again, in the ninth.
The Naturals did out-hit Corpus Christi, 6-5; but the tandem of right-hander, Corbin Martin (6-1, 2.33) and left-hander, Framber Valdez cut down the Northwest Arkansas line-up throughout the night.
Martin went five innings, allowed four hits and struck out three to earn the win while Valdez polished off the final four frames with six strikeouts and scattered two hits.
Mejia finished the night with a pair of knocks to lead the club.
The series continues tomorrow at Whataburger Field with left-hander, Foster Griffin (3-10, 6.00) on the mound opposite of Hooks' starter, left-hander, Ryan Hartman (6-2, 2.96).
